Ministry

Sharing your time and talents

Lay Ministry:  The St. James' Pastoral Team reaches out to parishioners in the time of illness and death through clergy and lay visits. They organize support as needed in the form of meals, transportation, and other services.

Other Lay Ministries: There are a variety of roles parishioners can play to support worship at St. James.  To volunteer, contact the Rector at the Parish Office (802-457-1727; lransom@stjameswoodstock.org)

  • Lectors -- Lectors participate in Sunday worship services by reading the lessons appointed for that day. They also read lessons for special services. Being a lector requires skill and confidence in reading in public.

  • Intercessors -- Intercessors lead The Prayers of the People during the Eucharist Service.

  • Ushers -- Ushers extend a friendly welcome to parishioners and visitors at Sunday services. They pass collection plates and assist the congregation during communion. Ushers serve in teams and are also called on to serve at funerals and special services.

  • Crucifers – Crucifers lead the procession for services, and they ensure that the Acolytes perform their assigned duties.

  • Acolytes -- Acolytes take responsibility for lighting and extinguishing candles for services and assist priests and deacons in preparation for communion.

  • Eucharistic Ministers - Eucharistic Ministers administer the chalice at the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.  They also serve occasionally for weddings, funerals and other services. Training is required.
